GE Next Engineers Launched!

Stoke on Trent & Staffordshire Careers Hub have been working closely with Connectr and is helping GE implement Next Engineers in Staffordshire.
The Engineering Academy is part of the GE Foundation’s Next Engineers programme, focused on increasing the diversity of young people entering engineering globally. For the Staffordshire activation, GE is partnering with Connectr, the leading HR tech platform for building businesses where people belong.
This weekend saw the launch of the first wave of 46 students to start their journey on the Next Engineers programme. For those young people interested in taking part in the Engineering Academy, students were required to submit an application along with a letter of recommendation from a teacher. The programme is for those currently in Year 11, working towards a Level 5 in Maths and Science at GCSE and importantly interested in engineering.
Students have started the programme where they will receive career coaching and mentoring from current GE staff, take part in a series of immersive design challenges and educational workshops, and benefit from numerous GE site visits. All of the sessions will take place at Staffordshire University, meaning that the students will be exposed to University life, as well experiencing the engineering department first hand.
The three-year course has been devised to encourage more young people in the local area to pursue a career in engineering, with those who go on to further education, for engineering degrees or apprenticeships, awarded £7,000 in financial support. For those interested there are still a few place left for to start this month.

Being part of the Stoke on Trent and Staffordshire Careers Hub has been pivotal to the development of careers provision in our school. The Hub have shared good practice across their members resulting in a stronger focus on good quality provision. The annual event enabled the hub to share their vision of School Improvement Through The Lens of Careers and looking beyond the Benchmarks. It was a fantastic opportunity to share different models of school improvement and strategies to further develop careers provision to enhance the future opportunities of our young people.
